Leading up to Family Literacy Day, students and staff were busy decorating their doors with this year’s Celebrate Your Heritage theme; classes even toured the school and voted for their favourite! A school-wide assembly will take place on Wednesday, January 25 where students will pair up for buddy reading and hear which class had the most votes for their decorated door! |
Clairmont Community School |
Students have a fun-filled week ahead of them! They’ll hear from guest readers, dress as their favourite literary characters and on Friday, January 27 read with family members who have been invited to join in on the fun.
Classes have worked together to build the Words That Changed My World wall. Using sticky notes, students and staff have shared their favourite literary quotes. You can find the special bulletin board outside the school gymnasium. |
Eaglesham School |
Families are invited to join the students on Thursday, January 26 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a day of literacy fun! Different activities will take place throughout the school and participants will move between activities however they wish. Elmworth School |
On Friday, January 27 families are invited to the school to read with their children or a group of students during silent sustained reading. |
Harry Balfour School |
Students are set to participate in a book swap, winter walk, winter carnival and a day of dressing as their favourite literary character! A special thank you to the Peace Wapiti Academy Grade 9 teachers and admin who will be visiting Harry Balfour School as mystery readers for the Grade 8 students. |
Hythe Regional School |
Students and staff are excited for Dress Up as Your Favourite Story Character Day on Wednesday, January 25. On Friday, January 27 everyone is welcome to bring in a stuffy to read with. |
La Glace School |
To honour this year’s Family Literacy Day theme Celebrate Your Heritage, families have been asked to create a family crest and submit it to the school to be put on display. The junior high students are preparing to pair up with elementary students to read and write messages in Valentine’s Day cards.
Throughout the month of January the Grade 1 and 2 students have been learning and reading all about Robert Munsch; and on Friday, January 27 they will pay tribute to his characters by dressing up as their favourite! |
Penson School |
On Thursday, January 26 families are invited to the school to read with students. On Friday, January 27 the students will be visited by the Grande Prairie Storm who will spend some time reading stories. Both events will take place on mats in the school gymnasium. |
Rycroft School |
Students will celebrate Family Literacy Day all week with guest readers, handmade bookmarks, and dressing up as their favourite literary characters. On Friday, the school will wrap up the week with Raiders Pride Day and will enjoy an afternoon filled with fun activities. |
Wembley Elementary School |
On Wednesday, January 25 students are encouraged to dress as their favourite literary characters and families are invited to the school to eat lunch and read with their children from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.
On Friday, January 27 Grade 4, 5, and 6 students from Helen E. Taylor School will visit Wembley Elementary School to read with the younger students. |
Whispering Ridge Community School |
Students will work to fill their Celebrate Your Heritage passport and create their own unique bookmarks with winners being announced at the end of the week. Students will enjoy collaborative stories and different activities like Guess the Teacher and guest readers. |
