Sexsmith Secondary School and Hythe Regional School will begin the upcoming school year with new administration. Sexsmith Secondary School is pleased to welcome Mrs. Amanda Howrish and Mrs. Cheri Bezovie as assistant principals. This fall, Mrs. Howrish and Mrs. Bezovie will join recently appointed principal Mrs. Ali Lario as the high school’s new administrative team. Mrs. Leah Moon has been named assistant principal of Hythe Regional School and is looking forward to beginning her new role.
Before deciding to become a teacher, Mrs. Howrish, born and raised in Sexsmith, attended Robert W. Zahara School and Sexsmith Secondary School. She completed the first two years of her Bachelor of Education at Grande Prairie Regional College and received her degree in Oklahoma where she earned herself a softball scholarship. Mrs. Howrish has been teaching at Sexsmith Secondary School since 2006 and is happy to take on a leadership role. “I’m looking forward to working with students, staff, and families to create a positive and rewarding educational experience for all.” She adds that she is excited to contribute to the continued success of Sexsmith Secondary School for years to come.
Mrs. Cheri Bezovie, who holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and a Master of Arts in Inclusive Education from Concordia University, started subbing with Peace Wapiti Public School Division in early 2024. She has spent the majority of her career teaching high school social studies and other humanity courses at St. Joseph Catholic High School in Grande Prairie. She is currently completing a Doctor of Education Degree with her dissertation topic focusing on trauma informed leadership practices that improve the lived experience of teachers and students. Mrs. Bezovie says she is looking forward to getting to know the staff and students at Sexsmith Secondary School so she may support the school community in any way possible.
Mrs. Leah Moon, a Hythe local, attended Hythe Elementary School and Hythe Regional Junior High as a student and says she is proud to still be a part of the Hythe school community. She joined Peace Wapiti Public School Division in 2008 when she graduated with her Bachelor of Education and has been teaching at Hythe Regional School ever since. “I love this school! The students and staff make it a great place to work, and I am excited to see what the future holds.” Mrs. Moon, who also holds a Bachelor of Social Work, has been the Inclusive Education Coordinator at Hythe Regional School for over 12 years.
